Q: I am new to yoga, where do I start?

We teach and practice in a traditional setting where yoga is taught and cultivated to meet each student where they are. We welcome students to practice any class we offer but we strongly recommend that first-time students and beginners develop a solid foundation in the 26+2 class. In the 26+2 class, you will be given detailed instructions and modifications as well as gain an understanding of techniques/concepts that are common throughout the other classes in this lineage. Q: What should I bring and wear to class?

The great thing about practicing yoga is that you don’t need anything fancy. Bring a yoga mat, a large towel that is big enough to place over your mat (a beach towel works great), and a bottle of water. The room does get hot and you will sweat (a lot!), so you will want to wear breathable fabrics that don’t constrict your movements. Avoid wearing jogging pants and shirts or thick cotton clothing.


Q: Why use heat? How hot is hot yoga?

Heat is used as a tool to increase circulation and sweat to detoxify the body. It aids in warming the muscles to promote elasticity and mobility. At Hot Yoga Deland, we heat the room to attain these effects by keeping the room temperature between 95-105 degrees.


Q: What if I’m heat intolerant?

With consistent practice, your body will learn to adapt to the heat. Stay well hydrated and bring your very best. Allow yourself time to develop your practice by listening to your body and taking breaks or rest as needed.


Q: What if I’m not flexible?

Coming to the studio with an open mind is the only flexibility you need. Your physical flexibility doesn’t matter and neither does your level of fitness. As long as you bring 100% of your best to the room you will get 100% of the benefits of practicing Yoga!

Q: I cannot stand up for certain periods of time or I have trouble getting up from the floor. Can I participate in class while being seated in a chair?

Absolutely! The postures will be modified to attain the same benefits as their standing counterparts. Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you feel that you have any limitations that would prevent you from participating in class. We will do our absolute best to accommodate your needs so that you may practice in the safest and most beneficial manner.


Q: What if the class feels too intense?

The only requirement in class is that you breathe, everything else is optional. During class simply take as many breaks as you need by laying down on your mat. Our instructors are there to encourage your practice and push you beyond your comfort zone, but never expect or require any student to push themselves to adverse limits. You can rest assured you will have a great class!


Q: How often should I practice?

Practice every day. Seriously.

Unfortunately practicing every day is not always attainable, but a regular practice of 3-4 times a week has been shown to have significant improvements on the body as a whole by strengthening muscular/cardiovascular systems and increasing joint mobility. In addition to the physical benefits, a consistent yoga practice has been found to promote positive emotional balance and overall well-being. We encourage you to practice as often as you can to experience the full benefits of your practice.
